Making the most out of your money
Whether you're an avid bargain hunter or rather more laissez faire about seeking out the best deals, no one wants to
spend more money on bills than is strictly necessary but getting a good deal doesn't have to be a headache. Here are
some simple tips for getting the most out of your money (whilst having a life!)
- Use comparison sites. If you want to get the best deal for you these are the quickest and easiest way to do it.
Sites like uSwitch, or Moneysupermarket can do all the legwork in an instant, all you have to do is put in the details
of your energy consumption, and voila! All the best deals are at your fingertips.
- Cut down on your energy consumption in the first place. If you're always wondering why your bills are so high,
perhaps it's time to look at the way you use that energy. Is the thermostat turned right up? Is the boiler on a timer?
Think about how you could cut down on the amount of energy you use in both big and small ways. You may want to upgrade
your boiler or get install some insulation. Alternatively you may want to keep things simple and just work on the small
things - turning off light bulbs, switching appliances off at the mains rather than leaving them on standby. Every little helps
- Whilst it's probably not going to save you any money, sometimes you're willing to pay a little extra for a hassle free life.
Why not try a dual-fuel gas and electricity bill?
British Gas recently launched their Websaver 3 dual fuel tariff, which could shave up to £109 off your bill when compared
to their standard tariffs.
- Pay bills by direct debit. Most companies will actively encourage you to pay via direct debit by giving you a bit of
discount when you sign up. Not on
- Pay online. Again, you're saving the company money on paper and stamps when you sign up to paper-free or online billing,
so it's only right that they should pass on some of the savings to you! Most people bank online, use email and conduct many
of their affairs online - so why not get bills online too and save money in the process?
